HOW INTERNET OPERATES? [P1]

What is Internet?

A means of connecting a computer to any other computer anywhere in the world by means of committed switches and servers. At the point when two computers are associated over the Internet, they can send and get a wide range of data, for example, content, designs, voice, video, and PC programs.

No one owns Internet, although several organizations the world over collaborate in its functioning and development. The high-speed, fiber-optic cables (called backbones) through which the bulk of the Internet data travels are owned by telephone companies in their respective countries.

How does internet can impact on business?

Communication

A business' ability to communicate with its employees, customers and associates changed dramatically when the Internet yielded new communication tools. Email and instant messaging have changed the face of business communication. According to a study conducted by the Small Business Administration, 36 percent of women business owners and 38 percent of male business owners use email very frequently, while over half of both men and women use email at least occasionally.

Advertising

Including the Internet in a business' advertising budget extends a business' ability to attract customers from their back yard to all four corners of the globe. Websites, banner placement and search engine optimization, also referred to as SEO, allow a business to have a presence on the web and reach millions of potential customers.

Research

Businesses use the Internet to research new product ideas, new methods of creating products and pricing information. A business can also research the competition to see what products and services are offered. If a company is looking to expand into a particular location, the Internet can be used to research the population, its needs and what products and services would sell best in that area.

How do Internet works?

How do internet works? due to the Internet is a global network of computers, each computer connected to the Internet must have a unique address. Internet addresses are in the form nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn where nnn must be a number from 0 - 255. This address is known as an IP address. (IP stands for Internet Protocol; more on this later.)

The picture below illustrates two computers connected to the Internet; your computer with IP address 1.2.3.4 and another computer with IP address 5.6.7.8. The Internet is represented as an abstract object in-between. (As this paper progresses, the Internet portion of Diagram 1 will be explained and redrawn several times as the details of the Internet are exposed.)

If you connect to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider (ISP), you are usually assigned a temporary IP address for the duration of your dial-in session. If you connect to the Internet from a local area network (LAN) your computer might have a permanent IP address or it might obtain a temporary one from a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. In any case, if you are connected to the Internet, your computer has a unique IP address.

So this is the impact of internet on business. It is very important for businesses to use internet especially in this modern era where we use technology more often than before. Internet have its pros and cons for example, it's help us alot by promoting and communication but internet also can be hack and scam so have to be careful to do business through internet.
